The LIVE 8 List
Before the G8 leaders met in Gleneagles on the 6th-8th July representatives of LIVE 8 and the Global Call to Action against Poverty presented Tony Blair, as chair of the G8, with over 30 million names as part of the LIVE 8 LIST.
People from all round the world added their names to the call for world leaders to take action during their summit to end extreme poverty.
After the leaders had met Kofi Annan, the Secretary General of the United Nations, called the Gleneagles G8 'the greatest summit for Africa ever'.
Only time will tell if this summit is historic or not. What is true is that never before have so many people forced a change of policy onto the global agenda.
The leaders took steps to increase aid and cancel debt for some of the poorest countries in the world, they also agreed to look at damaging trade policies when they meet later in the year.
We will be in touch again later in the year to let you know of the progress being made at the Millenium Development Summit and the World Trade Organistaion Talks.
Thank you for playing such an important role in making the G8 leaders act.
